Demand action from your state representatives, the judicial council, and independent journalists

There is a dire need for independent journalists to inform the public on judicial bias, misuse of public resources, and the desperate need for court reform.

There is a dire need for the public to engage as Court Watch observers in every family court in California and beyond.   Contact the Judicial Council with your comments.

There is a dire need for transparency and accountability for the judicial branch of government.  Contact your state representative and demand that Child Custody Recommending Counselors (CCRCs) have independent oversight and that litigants have a process to rid the courts of biased and incompetent CCRCs who increase litigation costs and work against the legislative mandate to reduce acrimony between the parties and help them reach agreement.  Demand accountability and efficiency from the courts now.

There is a dire need for resources to close the justice gap.

Contact your state representatives and demand funding and programs to help pro se litigants in all courts, including federal district courts.

There is a dire need for funding for family law facilitators with expanded help to cover procedural questions in depth and funding for low-cost/free representation for disabled persons who cannot possibly communicate effectively on their own.

If attorneys don't want to do pro bono work, demand that others step into the void - paralegals,  other legal professionals, perhaps non-legal trained semi-professionals - whatever it takes to make the courts more efficient.

There is a dire need for access to accurate transcripts.  Call your state representatives and demand funding for court reporters or electronic recording devices or cameras in court.  Demand free access to accurate transcripts to preserve due process right to an appeal.

judicial ethics and complaints

Personal recommendation: Read the CJP Complaint Form carefully. Use the models for your best effort. Don't expect anything to happen, but if we all file valid complaints, there is at least a paper trail to demonstrate the ongoing abuses of power in the family court system and lack of disciplinary action. Check LOCAL RULES for your Local Committee on the Elimination of Bias. RED ALERT: There does not appear to be ANY independent oversight of Child Custody Recommending Counselors.

Personal recommendations: File the peremptory challenge of a judge before your case is heard in El Dorado County Family Court. The judge considered most fair is Gary Slossberg. Best of Luck! If you are mandated to attend Child Custody Recommending Counseling, check the local rules for challenging the appointment.
